Best Indoor Cameras for Small Rooms

In a small room a fixed camera beats a pan motor. We prefer the Wyze Cam v4. A Blink Mini 2 only wins if you already pay for Blink and the room is a simple corner.

Best Indoor Cameras for Small Rooms

Bestindoorcam.com may earn a commission if you buy through a store link. That does not change which camera we prefer. Read how affiliate links and ads work and how we review.

Small rooms make people buy tiny cameras, which is not the same decision. Our preference is the Wyze Cam v4: a normal plug-in camera with a sharp fixed lens and a card, set once in the corner of a laundry room, pantry, or other space where the view never needs to travel. Pan and tilt is for rooms with a middle. A motor in a closet is furniture.

The Blink Mini 2 wins on size and loses on the plan, unless the plan is one you already pay. Do not collect four tiny cameras for four closets. One camera on the door of the small room, from the outside of that door if the inside is private, tells you the thing you actually wanted to know.

Keep bathrooms and dressing areas off the map entirely. A small room is not an excuse for a camera in a place people undress. If the small room is a nursery, leave this page. The nursery guide has a different night-vision answer.

Small-room picks

CameraWhy it fitsSkip it when
Wyze Cam v4Fixed 2.5K, card, plugs inThe room is a nursery and you hate spotlights
Blink Mini 2Very small bodyYou do not want a Blink plan
Tapo C210 or C225Only if the small room opens onto a larger oneThe motor will stare at a near wall

We do not recommend cameras in bathrooms or dressing rooms, no matter how small the room is.

Close walls punish the wrong lens

In a laundry room or a pantry, the Wyze Cam v4 is the camera we would plug in. You are not tracking a pet across a salon. You are seeing whether the door opened. A 2.5K fixed view from a corner is enough, and a pan camera's first move will be into a cabinet. Mount it, or rather set it, so the lens sees the entry and a bit of floor. Then stop adjusting it.

The Blink Mini 2 is physically the easiest camera to tuck onto a narrow shelf. We still rank it behind the Wyze if you are not already paying Blink, because the small room does not change the subscription math. The Wyze versus Blink page is that argument without the room attached.

Rooms we will not help you film

A bathroom, a shower, a dressing corner, and a roommate's private nook are not "small room" camera jobs. Do not put an indoor camera there. A small bedroom you sleep in should have a shutter or be unplugged at night. The C225 is the exception we allow in a small bedroom for that reason, and only when someone wants the lens able to close.

Infrared in a tiny room flares if the camera is too close to a shelf edge. Pull it back a few inches from the wood in front of the lens. The spec sheet will not mention your shelf.

Where to check the current price

Street prices move with sales. These links search a major retailer for the model named in this review. Confirm the exact model number on the listing before you pay.

Questions people ask before they buy

Is 4K wasted in a small room?

Usually yes. The subject is close. Spend the money on a card and a second room, not on a dual-lens camera staring at a washer.

Where do I put it in a laundry room?

High, seeing the door, cord away from the dryer vent and any water. Not inside a cabinet with the door closed.

Can a small camera cover a studio?

No. A studio is a living room. Use the apartment guide and a pan camera.
