How We Review

Every Bestindoorcam.com review is trying to answer one question: for this room and this budget, which indoor camera would we plug in? This page is the method, so the reviews do not have to repeat it in a long preface.

What we read

We start with the manufacturer's current product page: resolution, lens or pan range, night vision type, power, Wi-Fi band, storage, and which smart-home systems it claims. We then look at how the same model is sold at retail, because a "no subscription" claim can still hide person detection or cloud history behind a plan.

We do not award stars from a lab we do not run. The badge on a review — editor's pick, budget pick, ecosystem pick, worth a look, or skip — is an editorial judgment about fit. It is not a measurement of video quality in lumens or bitrate.

What we weigh

  • The job. A fixed camera on a door is a different job from a pan-tilt camera in a living room.
  • The second year. Hardware price plus the plan you will actually need.
  • Where video lives. A card in the camera, a hub in the house, or a cloud account.
  • Night vision type. Infrared, a white spotlight, or a sensor that keeps color in low light. A spotlight can wake a sleeping person. We say so.
  • Privacy hardware. A physical shutter or a lens that can face the wall matters in a bedroom and a home office.
  • The app you already have. Nest, Ring, Blink, Apple Home, Google Home, and a UniFi console are not the same purchase.

What we will not recommend

We do not recommend hidden cameras, cameras in bathrooms or dressing areas, or cameras aimed at neighbors, shared hallways you do not control, or anyone who has not agreed to be recorded. A nursery camera is a tool for caregivers who already share the room's care, not a medical device. Checking on an older relative only belongs in a guide when that person, or the person who can consent for them, wants the camera there.

Corrections

If a model number, a storage limit, or a HomeKit claim is out of date, write to us from the contact page. We update the sentence. We would rather be corrected than confident.
