Best Indoor Cameras for a Nursery
For a nursery we prefer a camera with a physical shutter and local storage. The Tapo C225 is the budget pick. The eufy S350 is the one if you need to see the crib and the rest of the room.
Bestindoorcam.com may earn a commission if you buy through a store link. That does not change which camera we prefer. Read how affiliate links and ads work and how we review.
The nursery question is not which camera has the most features. It is which camera you can turn off, which one keeps the video in the house, and which one will not light the room like a porch. Our preference is the TP-Link Tapo C225 for most nurseries: 2K, pan and tilt so you are not rebuilding the shelf every time the crib moves, a physical privacy shutter, and a starlight sensor TP-Link markets for color in low light. The eufy Indoor Cam S350 is the step up when the crib is small in a wide frame and you want the telephoto.
Cloud baby monitors and security cameras get blurred together in search results. A Nest Cam can show a nursery inside Google Home, and familiar face alerts are a Nest Aware feature, not a free one. We would only send a Google household there, and we would still want them to read the subscription comparison. A nursery is a poor place to discover that yesterday's clip expired because the free tier keeps a few minutes.
Consent still applies to the other adult who uses the room. A camera above a crib is a camera in a bedroom. If a partner, a night nurse, or a grandparent shares that space, they should know the lens is there and how to close it. The shutter is not a decoration. It is the reason the C225 beats a cheaper fixed camera that is always open.
Nursery fit, not baby-monitor marketing
| Camera | Shutter | Night beside a crib | Our lean |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tapo C225 | Yes, physical | Starlight color, not a spotlight | Best default |
| eufy Indoor Cam S350 | Privacy mode on eufy's sheet | Dual lens if the crib is across the room | When one camera must see the whole nursery |
| Aqara Camera Hub G3 | Yes | HomeKit Secure Video if you already live in Apple Home | When the video should stay in iCloud |
Cry detection, if a model lists it, is a sound alert. It does not measure breathing and it does not replace a caregiver in the room.
What a nursery camera is for
It is for a parent or caregiver in another room of the same home, checking whether the baby is asleep, awake, or crying. It is not a medical device, not a substitute for safe sleep guidance, and not a camera to hand to a stranger. If you want a closed radio link with a parent unit and no internet account, a dedicated baby monitor such as the ones sold for that job is a different product. We are comparing Wi-Fi indoor cameras because that is what people search, and we would rather say the limit out loud.
Our preference is the Tapo C225. You can close the shutter when the room does not need a lens, the card keeps clips in the house, and starlight night vision is a better neighbor to a crib than a white spotlight. If the crib sits far from the only shelf that has an outlet, the S350 earns its price because you can look closer without standing the camera on the changing table.
Placement that respects the room
Put the camera high, aimed at the crib, with the cord unreachable. Do not put it inside the crib. Do not aim it at a changing area if you can frame the sleep space instead. Turn off any siren. Two-way talk is useful so the baby hears a familiar voice. It is also a speaker. Keep the volume low and test it before you rely on it at 2 a.m.
If the household uses Apple Home and you want the video in iCloud rather than another account, look at the Aqara Camera Hub G3 and confirm HomeKit Secure Video on the listing you are buying. That is an ecosystem choice. It is not automatically a better picture than the C225.
Where to check the current price
Street prices move with sales. These links search a major retailer for the model named in this review. Confirm the exact model number on the listing before you pay.
Questions people ask before they buy
Is a security camera safe to use as a baby monitor?
It can show the room. It is not certified as a medical monitor. Keep a caregiver responsible for the child. Use the camera as a window, not as a promise.
Should night vision use a spotlight?
Not as the default next to a sleeping baby. Prefer infrared or a low-light sensor. The Wyze Cam v4's color mode uses a visible light. We would not choose it as the crib camera for that reason.
Who else can see the feed?
Anyone with the app login, and anyone a shared account invites. Use a strong password, turn on two-factor authentication if the app offers it, and do not share the nursery feed with a group chat.
