Google Nest Cam Indoor (3rd Gen) vs eufy Indoor Cam E30: Which Should You Buy?

Overview
The Nest Cam Indoor (wired, 3rd gen) is Google's current indoor flagship: a fixed camera with 2K HDR video (2560 × 1440), a very wide 152° diagonal field of view, and an attached 10 ft USB-C cable. It runs only in the Google Home app, stores nothing locally, and leans on Google Home Premium subscriptions for anything beyond a few hours of short event previews. Our full review of the Nest Cam Indoor (wired, 3rd gen) covers the camera on its own, including how its Gemini features are tiered.

The eufy Indoor Cam E30 (model T8417121) takes the opposite approach. It records in 4K UHD, sits on a motorised pan-and-tilt base that covers a full 360°, tracks people and pets automatically with on-device AI, and records to a microSD card or a eufy HomeBase 3 — no subscription required for any core feature. Our full eufy Indoor Cam E30 review walks through its specs in detail.

So this comparison is really fixed-and-wide versus moving-and-sharp, and cloud-subscription versus local-and-free. One important honesty note up front: the field-of-view numbers are not directly comparable in the way the spec sheets suggest. Nest's 152° is a fixed diagonal figure; the E30's native lens is 125° diagonal, but because the head pans and tilts, its total coverage is the full 360° around its position. Nest sees more of a room at once; the E30 can look at all of it, just not simultaneously.

Sources: store.google.com (Nest Cam Indoor product and comparison pages) and eufy.com (Indoor Cam E30, model T8417121), checked 19 October 2026. Where a manufacturer does not publish a figure, the table says so rather than guessing.
A note on the Nest price: Google's own pages currently disagree with each other. The Google Store comparison tables list the Nest Cam Indoor (3rd gen) at $99.99 — its launch price — while the store buy box read $129.99 in our earlier checks of the same store. We report both figures rather than picking one silently; check the buy box on the day you order. Either way, the E30 is the cheaper camera before subscriptions enter the picture.
Key differences that actually matter
Resolution vs field of view
On pixels, the E30 wins outright: 4K UHD carries roughly twice the detail of Nest's 2K frame, which matters when you zoom into a face or a licence-plate-style detail across a room. On coverage at a glance, Nest wins: 152° diagonal from a fixed position takes in more of a room in a single frame than the E30's 125° lens. The E30 answers that with movement — its head pans and tilts through 360° and automatically follows a person or pet across the room. If your camera watches one doorway or one crib, Nest's fixed wide view is simpler. If it watches a whole living space, the E30's tracking follows the action instead of hoping it happens in frame. For context on how Nest's 2K sensor stacks up against a true-4K fixed rival, see our Nest Cam Indoor 3rd Gen vs Ring Indoor Cam 4K comparison.

Night vision
The E30 is the stronger night camera on paper, in two ways. Its infrared range is rated to 32.8 ft — more than double the 15 ft figure in Google's full spec table for the Nest — and its built-in spotlight enables colour night vision to 16.4 ft, so a night-time event can show clothing colours instead of greyscale. Nest counters with HDR night vision, which is about balancing bright and dark areas of the frame rather than raw range or colour. If the camera guards a hallway, nursery or pet area overnight, the E30's combination of longer IR reach and a colour option is the more useful spec set.

Storage and subscriptions: the real price gap
This is where the comparison is decided for most buyers. The Nest Cam has no local storage at all. Free, you get 6 hours of event previews — 10-second clips. Anything more requires Google Home Premium: Standard at $10/month for 30 days of event history, or Advanced at $20/month for 60 days plus 10 days of 24/7 continuous history and the Gemini features. Over two years, even the Standard plan adds $240 to the cost of the camera.
The E30 records to a microSD card (up to 128 GB) or a HomeBase 3 that you own, records 24/7 as well as on events, and runs all of its AI detection on the device — person, pet, audio and crying detection included, free. Optional eufy cloud storage exists, but nothing core is paywalled. If avoiding monthly fees is a priority in itself, the E30 belongs on the same shortlist as the cameras in our guide to the best indoor cameras with no monthly fee.
Smart home fit
Nest is a Google Home camera, full stop: Google Home app only, no old Nest app, and its best tricks — Gemini searchable history, detailed event descriptions and daily summaries — sit on the $20/month Advanced tier. The E30 is the flexible one: eufy Security app, plus HomeKit, Alexa and Google Assistant support. The one catch is real: through HomeKit the E30 streams at up to 1080p, so Apple households only get the full 4K picture inside the eufy app. If you are deep in eufy's range and want dual lenses and optical zoom instead, our eufy Indoor Cam S350 review covers the step-up model at $139.99.
Wi-Fi and the small print
Nest takes this round: dual-band Wi-Fi handles crowded 2.4 GHz environments better and gives the camera a 5 GHz option the E30 simply does not have — the E30 is 2.4 GHz only. Both cameras are wired plug-in models with two-way audio. Neither claim here is based on hands-on testing: this comparison is built entirely from the manufacturers' published specifications, and we flag every figure we could not verify rather than filling gaps.

- Meaningful history costs $10–$20/month, indefinitely
- Fixed camera — no pan, tilt or tracking
- Lower resolution than the cheaper E30 (2K vs 4K)
- Google Store pricing is inconsistent ($99.99 vs $129.99 on Google's own pages)

Who should buy which?
Buy the eufy Indoor Cam E30 if you want the most camera for the money: 4K detail, a head that follows people and pets around the room, colour night vision, and recordings that stay on your own card or HomeBase with no monthly bill. It is the better pick for pet owners, parents who want crying detection without a subscription, large or open-plan rooms, and anyone in a mixed Alexa / HomeKit / Google Assistant household who is happy to use the eufy app for full 4K.
Buy the Google Nest Cam Indoor (3rd Gen) if your home already runs on Google Home, you want one fixed wide view of a single room with nothing to aim or track, and you specifically value the Gemini layer — searching your history in plain language and reading detailed event descriptions — enough to pay $20/month for the Advanced plan (or $10/month for Standard history without it). Budget the subscription as part of the purchase price, and confirm which of Google's two listed prices the buy box shows on the day.
FAQ
Does the eufy E30 really work without a subscription?
Yes, for everything core. eufy lists the E30 at $69.99 with no monthly fee for local recording: 24/7 and event recording go to a microSD card (up to 128 GB, sold separately) or a HomeBase 3, and the human, pet, audio and crying detection runs on the device. Optional cloud storage exists, but it is not required.
Can the Nest Cam Indoor (3rd Gen) record without Google Home Premium?
Only minimally. Without a plan it keeps 6 hours of event video previews — clips of up to 10 seconds — and there is no local storage option at all. Reviewable history requires Google Home Premium: Standard ($10/month, 30 days of event history) or Advanced ($20/month, 60 days plus 10 days of 24/7 continuous history and Gemini features).
Which camera has the wider view?
In a single frame, the Nest: 152° diagonal versus the E30's 125° diagonal lens. In total coverage, the E30: its motorised head pans and tilts through 360° and tracks movement, so over time it can see the whole room — just not all of it at the same instant.
Does the E30 work with Apple HomeKit at 4K?
No. The E30 supports HomeKit, Alexa and Google Assistant, but HomeKit video is capped at 1080p. The full 4K UHD stream is available in the eufy Security app.
Which camera is better at night?
On published specs, the E30: infrared rated to 32.8 ft (versus 15 ft in Google's spec table for the Nest) plus colour night vision to 16.4 ft from its built-in spotlight. The Nest offers HDR night vision, which targets balanced exposure rather than range or colour. We have not hands-on tested either camera's night footage; this is a spec-sheet comparison.
Where to buy
Buy the Google Nest Cam Indoor (wired, 3rd gen) from the Google Store — and check the buy box price against the $99.99 / $129.99 discrepancy noted above before ordering.
Buy the eufy Indoor Cam E30 from eufy.com at $69.99; remember a microSD card (up to 128 GB) is sold separately if you are not pairing it with a HomeBase 3.
How we compare: specifications verified against the manufacturers' official product pages (store.google.com and eufy.com) on 19 October 2026. We do not claim hands-on testing for this comparison; prices and plan pricing are as listed by the manufacturers on that date and can change.
