Best Indoor Cameras With No Monthly Fee

If the video has to live in the house, we prefer the eufy S350 for a whole room and the Tapo C225 or Reolink E1 series when you want the fee off the table.

Best Indoor Cameras With No Monthly Fee

Bestindoorcam.com may earn a commission if you buy through a store link. That does not change which camera we prefer. Read how affiliate links and ads work and how we review.

No monthly fee is the most useful phrase in indoor camera shopping and the easiest one to abuse. Our preference is the eufy Indoor Cam S350 when you want the room covered and the bill to stop at the hardware. Our budget preference is the Tapo C225. Both record to a card you own. Reolink's E1 Zoom joins them if you want optical zoom and a path to a recorder that is not a subscription.

The cameras we leave off the winner's stand are not broken. A Nest Cam is a good Google camera. A Ring Indoor Cam is a good Ring camera. A Blink Mini 2 is a good Blink camera. Their business is the plan. If your search is specifically the fee, do not meet them halfway and hope the free tier is enough. It is a preview.

Read the longer explanation of cards, hubs, and plans in local storage versus a subscription. Then buy one camera that matches the room, not four that match a coupon.

A plan can still be worth it for off-site backup after a burglar takes the camera. That is a choice, not a requirement, on the cameras we prefer here.

What no monthly fee should mean

It should mean you can record motion, play it back tomorrow, and do it after you decline every trial. A microSD card in the camera does that on the S350, the C225, the Reolink E1 models, and the Wyze Cam v4. A Sync Module can do a smaller version of it for Blink, and we still do not prefer Blink for this search because the app is built to upsell the plan. Nest and Ring keep a short free taste and then Nest Aware or Ring Protect. They are the wrong answer to this particular question, which we say again in the Nest versus Ring piece.

Off-site backup is the fair counterargument. A card in a camera stolen with the laptop is gone. If that risk bothers you, pay for cloud on a camera that also has a card, or record to a hub in a closet. Do not let the fear talk you into a camera that cannot record at all unless you pay.

The fine print on free AI

Human, pet, and package labels are not the same as recording. Wyze, Blink, Ring, and others have drawn that line in different places over the years, and they move it. When we say a camera works without a fee, we mean the video records. We do not promise every smart label is free. Open the subscription screen in the app before you rely on a detection name.

Reolink is the brand we send to people who want the fee off the table and also want an NVR later. The E1 Zoom and E1 Pro speak the language of local systems more naturally than a Tapo. The Tapo app is the easier evening. Pick the evening you will actually have.

Where to check the current price

Street prices move with sales. These links search a major retailer for the model named in this review. Confirm the exact model number on the listing before you pay.

Questions people ask before they buy

Is the eufy S350 really subscription free?

eufy sells it as a local-storage camera. You can add a HomeBase and you can ignore cloud. Confirm the current card size limit. You do not need a monthly plan to use the camera.

What card should I buy?

A name-brand microSD in the capacity the manual allows. Format it in the camera. Replace it if the camera starts reporting card errors. The card is the hard drive.

Are no-name cameras with no fee a good idea?

The missing fee is not a favor if the app is abandoned or the account is the product. Stay with brands that still publish firmware: eufy, TP-Link, Reolink, Wyze.
