Wyze Cam v4 vs Tapo C120

Prefer the Wyze Cam v4 as a simple indoor fixed camera. Prefer the Tapo C120 when the same camera may sit in a covered entry and you want TP-Link's app.

Wyze Cam v4 vs Tapo C120

Bestindoorcam.com may earn a commission if you buy through a store link. That does not change which camera we prefer. Read how affiliate links and ads work and how we review.

The Wyze Cam v4 and the Tapo C120 are fixed, plug-in, card-recording cameras in the same price band. Our preference indoors is the Wyze, because 2.5K is the small edge and you are not buying weatherproofing you do not need. Our preference for a covered entry, or a house that already uses the Tapo app, is the C120. TP-Link aims that model at indoor and outdoor use. Confirm the rating, then let it live where a purely indoor camera would be a worry.

This is a dull comparison on purpose. Neither camera moves. Neither replaces a pan camera in a living room. If you are deciding between them, you have already decided the view is a rectangle. Pick the app and the weather, and stop reading spec tables.

A third option, the Blink Mini 2, is cheaper and more dependent on a plan. It is not the winner on this page. The Wyze versus Blink article is where that one belongs.

If you are standing in a store aisle, open the listing and look for the weather line and the app name, then ignore the rest of the badge. Both cameras will show a door. The one you will still open in six months is the one that matches the other cameras in the house. A mixed Wyze and Tapo hallway is how clips get lost between two passwords. Pick the app now, buy the card with it, and do not add a pan camera to a job you have already decided is a rectangle.

If you need pan, neither is the camera. Look at the C225.

Indoor shelf versus covered entry

On a dry indoor shelf, we prefer the Wyze Cam v4. The picture class is a little higher, the app is a known quantity, and you are not paying for seals you will not use. In a drafty mudroom or a covered entry that gets splash and temperature swings, we prefer the Tapo C120, because TP-Link sells that model as indoor and outdoor. Read the current weather rating. A marketing photo of a porch is not the same as a rating.

If the rest of your cameras are Tapo, take the C120 even indoors so you are not running Wyze beside Tapo for one hallway. One app is a feature. The hallway guide assumes that choice.

Do not confuse the C120 with the C225

The C120 does not pan. The C225 does. People mix the numbers because both are Tapo and both are 2K. If a human or a pet crosses a wide room, the C120 is the wrong Tapo. The C225 review is the pan camera. This page is only the fixed one.

Where to check the current price

Street prices move with sales. These links search a major retailer for the model named in this review. Confirm the exact model number on the listing before you pay.

Questions people ask before they buy

Which has the better night vision?

Both can use a light for color. Neither is the starlight C225. For a dark bedroom, pick neither. For an entry, either is fine if you accept a spotlight.

Can I use the C120 only indoors?

Yes. The outdoor rating is permission, not a requirement to mount it outside.

Is 2.5K versus 2K obvious?

On a face at a door, slightly. It will not rescue a bad angle. Aim first, then care about the badge.
