Best Indoor Cameras for Alexa
In an Alexa house we prefer the Blink Mini 2 if you already pay for Blink, and the Ring Indoor Cam if the rest of the doors are Ring. Otherwise we still prefer a Tapo C225.
Bestindoorcam.com may earn a commission if you buy through a store link. That does not change which camera we prefer. Read how affiliate links and ads work and how we review.
Alexa does not make a camera good. It makes a camera visible on a speaker you already talk to. Our preference inside that world is the Blink Mini 2 when Blink is the system you pay for, and the Ring Indoor Cam when Ring Protect is already open for a doorbell. Starting from zero, our preference leaves Alexa on the counter and buys the Tapo C225, because the two-year cost of a plan is larger than the gap in the hardware.
People get into this category by saying "it works with Alexa" in a product title. Ask a narrower question. Do you need the clip history inside Blink or Ring, or do you need a voice in the kitchen to say that the camera saw motion? The first is a subscription. The second might be a skill on a camera that records at home.
If you are choosing between the two Amazon indoor cameras only, read Blink Mini 2 versus Ring Indoor Cam before you add a second app to the same cupboard.
Alexa household picks
| Camera | Best if | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| Blink Mini 2 | You already have Blink cameras or a Sync Module | Blink subscription for the full alert life |
| Ring Indoor Cam | You already pay Ring Protect for a doorbell | Ring Protect |
| Tapo C225 | You only wanted Alexa as a screen, not as a security account | Optional Tapo Care |
Skills and live view change. Test a live view on your Echo Show before you buy a second camera for that reason.
Stay inside the account you already pay
If Blink cameras are already in the house, the Blink Mini 2 is the indoor camera we would add. One app, one plan, a small plug-in body. If the doorbell is a Ring and Ring Protect is already on the card, the Ring Indoor Cam is the matching piece, and the Blink versus Ring page stops you from running both subscriptions out of habit. Amazon sells both. They are not one app.
If you own an Echo and nothing else from this family, you do not have an ecosystem yet. You have a speaker. The Tapo C225 is the better camera to put next to it. Alexa may show a live view through a skill. The recording should still be the card.
What we would not start
We would not start a new Blink subscription and a new Ring subscription in the same apartment. Pick one Amazon account style. Or pick neither and use the no-fee list. Two apps plus Alexa is how a simple door becomes a project.
Person detection that requires the plan is the feature you are buying. Say that out loud before checkout. The hardware price is the invitation.

Questions people ask before they buy
Can Tapo cameras show on an Echo Show?
TP-Link has offered Alexa integration for live view. Confirm it on the current Tapo listing and test it. Do not expect Ring's timeline inside the Tapo app or the reverse.
Which is cheaper over two years, Blink or Tapo?
Add the Blink plan for 24 months to the Mini 2. Compare that sum with a C225 and a memory card. The C225 usually wins if you are starting from zero.
Does Alexa need the camera to be an Amazon brand?
No. Alexa can announce and sometimes show third-party cameras. The tight experience is still Blink or Ring if you are paying those brands anyway.
