Best Plug-In Indoor Cameras

Indoors, we prefer plug-in cameras over battery ones. The eufy S350, Tapo C225, and Wyze Cam v4 all stay awake because a cord is part of the design.

Best Plug-In Indoor Cameras

Bestindoorcam.com may earn a commission if you buy through a store link. That does not change which camera we prefer. Read how affiliate links and ads work and how we review.

The best plug-in indoor camera is the one that matches the room, and the plug is why we are willing to recommend it as a daily tool. For a whole room that is the eufy Indoor Cam S350. For a budget room it is the Tapo C225. For one fixed spot it is the Wyze Cam v4. All three expect a socket. We like that. An indoor battery camera asks you to become a charging schedule, and most people will not.

The cord is the design constraint to solve with furniture, not with a worse camera. If you cannot reach an outlet without crossing the only path through the room, choose a different shelf. Do not switch to a battery model and call it solved. You will find it dark on the day you wanted it.

A Google Nest Cam that is sold as wired belongs in this conversation only for a Google household. It plugs in. The history still belongs to Nest Aware. Power and storage are different bills.

A few indoor cameras offer battery. We do not prefer them for a camera you expect to be watching while you are out.

Why the outlet wins indoors

Outdoors, a battery camera avoids a ladder and a wire. Indoors, an outlet is usually on the same wall as the shelf. Our preference is to use it. The S350, the C225, and the Wyze Cam v4 are all plug-in, and that is a reason they stay on the shortlist rather than a drawback. A motor that is rationing battery will not track. A camera that slept through the hour you were at the store is a decorative object.

Plan the cord before you fall in love with a corner. A cord across a walkway is a trip and a pet toy. Run it behind furniture. If the only outlet forces the lens into a window, move the job to a different camera position, not a brighter night-vision claim. Glass and infrared still do not get along.

Wired does not mean PoE

Plug-in here means a USB or barrel adapter in a wall socket. It does not mean the UniFi G5 Flex, which wants power over Ethernet and a Protect console. Both are wired. Only one is a Saturday afternoon with a free outlet. The G5 Flex versus E1 Pro page is for the reader who already owns the console.

Nest's wired indoor cam is plug-in too. Buy it for Google Home, not because the word wired sounds more secure. The security is the account, the angle, and whether you record. The cord only keeps it awake.

Where to check the current price

Street prices move with sales. These links search a major retailer for the model named in this review. Confirm the exact model number on the listing before you pay.

Questions people ask before they buy

Are USB plugs safe to leave in?

Use the adapter the camera came with or a reputable replacement of the same rating. Do not bury a cheap adapter under a cushion.

Can I use a power bank?

You can, and then you own a battery camera again. Fine for a weekend. Not our preference for a permanent indoor spot.

What length of cable do I need?

Long enough to hide, short enough that you are not coiling a trap. If the camera uses a detachable USB cable, a longer known-good cable is often easier than an extension cord.
