Overview
Apple has recommended third-party HomeKit cameras for years, but this is different: the Apple Home Collection was co-developed with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric from the early planning stage, and the cameras are sold as Apple's own recommended lineup. The Indoor Cam is the indoor model in a four-camera family that also includes a dual-lens Video Doorbell ($249.95), an Outdoor Cam ($299.95) and a Floodlight Cam ($399.95).
The pitch is privacy you can see. Instead of a software toggle or a plastic shutter, the cylindrical camera physically tilts on its stand: it adjusts its view when you check in from the Home app, and tilts back down to stop monitoring as soon as the first household member returns home. You can also tilt it manually or from the app at any time.

Key features
A privacy tilt you can see working
Most indoor cameras ask you to trust a light or an app toggle. The LG Indoor Cam moves. When the household is home, it tilts to stop monitoring; when you check in remotely or the last person leaves, it tilts back into position. For anyone who likes the idea of a camera but hates being watched by their own living-room lens, this is the headline feature — and it is the same physical-privacy idea buyers look for in our roundup of the best indoor cameras for Apple HomeKit.
No new app, no new subscription
Setup starts with a single tap on an iPhone, and the camera lives entirely in the Home app. Video history is part of iCloud+ through HomeKit Secure Video (10 days of event clips), so Apple households do not pay a second, camera-specific subscription. On eligible iCloud+ plans, Apple Intelligence can also add automatic descriptions of what a clip shows and natural-language search of footage.

Built to survive a Wi-Fi dropout
Apple says the cameras carry built-in storage so recording continues when Wi-Fi goes down, and every collection product supports Thread and can update its own network credentials if you change your home Wi-Fi — two small details that remove classic smart-camera frustrations.
How it stacks up
At $199.95, this is double the launch price of Google's Nest Cam Indoor (3rd gen) and Ring's Indoor Cam 4K, both of which we cover in our Nest Cam Indoor 3rd gen review and Ring Indoor Cam 4K review. What the premium buys is the Apple-only experience: Home app exclusivity, end-to-end encryption, the physical privacy tilt, and no extra subscription beyond iCloud+. HomeKit households that currently rely on hub cameras such as the one in our Aqara Camera Hub G3 review finally get a first-party-recommended option. The catch is just as clear: Apple lists Matter support for the collection's lock and thermostats, but presents the cameras as Apple Home products — if your home runs on Alexa or Google Home, this camera is not for you.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Physical privacy tilt — monitoring visibly stops when someone comes home
- Up to 2.5K video with people, pet, vehicle and package recognition
- No separate app, account or camera subscription — HomeKit Secure Video runs on iCloud+
- End-to-end encryption; footage keeps recording during Wi-Fi outages
- One-tap iPhone setup, Siri control, Thread support
Cons
- $199.95 — twice the price of rival flagship indoor cameras
- Apple Home only: no Alexa, Google Home or Android path announced
- Not on sale until December 2026, and full specs (field of view, night vision) are still unpublished
- Needs an Apple home hub and an iCloud+ plan for recorded history
Who it's for
iPhone households that want an indoor camera Apple's own ecosystem actually recommends, value visible privacy over a long feature list, and already pay for iCloud+. If you want 4K, local SD recording or a camera under $100, look at the rivals linked above instead.
FAQ
How much does the LG Indoor Cam for Apple Home cost?
It starts at $199.95 in the US, in Essence White.
When is the LG Indoor Cam released?
Apple says Apple Home Collection availability begins in December 2026, in the US, Canada and the UK for the cameras.
Does the LG Indoor Cam need a subscription?
There is no separate camera subscription. Recorded event history (10 days) comes through HomeKit Secure Video, which requires an iCloud+ plan and a home hub.
How does the privacy tilt work?
The camera physically tilts to stop monitoring when the first household member returns home, and tilts back when you check in or the home is empty. You can also tilt it manually or in the Home app.
Does the LG Indoor Cam work with Alexa, Google Home or Matter?
Apple presents the cameras as Apple Home products controlled in the Home app and with Siri, and has not announced Alexa or Google Home support. Matter compatibility is explicitly listed for the collection's lock and thermostats, not the cameras.
