TL;DR The Aqara Camera Hub G2H Pro is two devices in one small white body: a fixed 1080p indoor camera with a very wide 146° lens, and a Zigbee 3.0 hub that can run up to 128 Aqara child devices. Its strongest card is Apple integration — HomeKit Secure Video, HomeKit two-way audio, and all four HomeKit Security System modes — plus local recording to microSD or a Samba NAS, so no Aqara subscription is required. Trade-offs: 1080p only, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only, no pan or tilt, a Micro USB port, and a power adapter that is not included in the box.

Overview

Most indoor cameras do one job. The G2H Pro is built for buyers who also want to start — or expand — an Aqara sensor system without finding shelf space and a spare outlet for a separate hub. Put this camera in a room and it watches that room while also linking Aqara door, motion, temperature and other Zigbee sensors into Aqara Home, Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home and IFTTT.

It is the fixed-camera sibling in Aqara's hub-camera line. If you want motorised movement and higher resolution instead, start with our Aqara Camera Hub G3 review; the G2H Pro is the simpler, cheaper-shaped option for a single room plus a sensor network.

Specs verified against Aqara's official product page at eu.aqara.com. One honest caveat: that page is internally inconsistent on microSD capacity — its feature sections state up to 512GB while its specifications table states up to 128GB — so confirm the current limit with Aqara before buying a large card.

Key features

A Zigbee hub inside the camera

This is the reason to buy the G2H Pro over an ordinary 1080p camera. Up to 128 Aqara Zigbee child devices can connect through it, and events from those sensors — a door opening, for example — are marked directly on the camera's video timeline, so an alert and the matching footage live in one place. It sits naturally in our best indoor cameras for Apple HomeKit roundup because those connected sensors are exposed to HomeKit as well.

The fullest HomeKit treatment in this class

Beyond HomeKit Secure Video recording to iCloud, Aqara lists HomeKit-enabled two-way audio and support for all four HomeKit Security System modes. Face and package recognition run on your HomeKit hub — a HomePod or similar — rather than in a vendor cloud. For how that compares with other Apple-first cameras, see our look at Apple smart home cameras.

146° lens and invisible night vision

The fixed lens covers a whole room from a corner, at the cost of a fish-eye look at the edges — Aqara itself attributes the wider angle to the absence of distortion correction. At night, 940nm infrared LEDs provide night vision without the faint red glow of cheaper 850nm illuminators, which matters in a bedroom or nursery.

Local-first storage

Short event clips can go to the cloud while full footage stays local on microSD, and the Samba NAS option lets the camera back up to storage you own. Add activity zones and local privacy masking — which can keep part of the frame from being recorded or passed to third-party platforms — and the privacy story is stronger than most cameras at this level.

Flexible mounting

The base is magnetic and the box includes a metal plate and screws, so the camera can sit on a shelf, stick to a metal surface, mount on a wall, or hang flipped from above.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Camera + Zigbee 3.0 hub in one device — up to 128 Aqara child devices
  • Deep HomeKit support: Secure Video, two-way audio, and all four security-system modes
  • Face and package recognition processed on your own HomeKit hub
  • Local recording to microSD and Samba NAS — no Aqara subscription needed
  • 940nm night vision with no visible glow; wide 146° lens covers a full room
  • Also works with Alexa, Google Home and IFTTT; WPA3 Wi-Fi security

Cons

  • 1080p only, and the camera is fixed — no pan, tilt or tracking
  • 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only; Micro USB rather than USB-C
  • Power adapter is not included in the box
  • HomeKit Secure Video needs a paid iCloud plan and a HomeKit hub
  • Aqara's own page disagrees with itself on maximum microSD capacity (512GB in features vs 128GB in its spec table)
  • The 146° lens has a fish-eye character Aqara does not correct

Who it's for

The G2H Pro is for Apple Home households building an Aqara sensor system: one purchase gives you a room camera, the hub those sensors need, and HomeKit Secure Video recording. It is also a sensible pick for anyone who wants local NAS recording and privacy masking without a vendor subscription. Our Aqara G3 vs Logitech Circle View comparison is the right next read if you are deciding how far up the hub-camera ladder to climb.

It's not for: buyers who want 2K or sharper video, anyone who needs the camera to follow movement around a room, 5GHz-only networks, or outdoor use — Aqara positions this strictly as an indoor camera.

FAQ

Is the Aqara G2H Pro a hub as well as a camera?

Yes. Aqara lists a built-in Zigbee 3.0 hub that connects up to 128 Aqara child devices such as sensors and controllers, although reaching that maximum may require Zigbee repeaters.

Does the Aqara G2H Pro support HomeKit Secure Video?

Yes. Aqara lists HomeKit Secure Video support, with face and package recognition processed locally on a HomeKit hub such as a HomePod. Aqara notes that an iCloud subscription (50GB or more), a HomeKit hub and current Apple software are required.

Does the Aqara G2H Pro need a subscription?

Not for local recording. It records to a microSD card you supply, and it can also use Samba NAS storage. HomeKit Secure Video recording, if you want it, uses your paid iCloud storage instead of an Aqara plan.

What size microSD card does the G2H Pro take?

Aqara's official page is inconsistent: its feature sections state up to 512GB while its specifications table states up to 128GB, both for Class 4 or above cards. We flag the discrepancy rather than pick a number — check Aqara's current support documentation before buying a card larger than 128GB.

Does the Aqara G2H Pro work with Alexa and Google Home?

Yes. Aqara lists Amazon Alexa, Google Home and IFTTT alongside Apple Home, including streaming the camera to supported smart displays.
